The PST OCR Mitek Plug-In v1.0 is used with EZ-Scan to read fields on documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
The PST OCR Mitek Plug-In v1.0 also contains a developer toolkit that exposes functionality for creation OCR applications. See the Developement documentation included in this help file.
Configuring the PST OCR Mitek Plug-In v1.0
To use the PST OCR Mitek Plug-In v1.0 you will need to configure it to read you documents.
Test Documents
The first thing you will need to do is scan a test set of documents for setting up the OCR form layouts used to read them.
Using EZ-Scan scan at least 20 documents that you will be using EZ-Scan to read. Give the Batch a descriptive name such as TestImages.
Customizing the database
You will need to add the fields to the EZ-Scan database that data will be saved to when it is read by the plug-in. Determine which data that you would like to save and add the fields to the database from the Verify tab of the EZ-Scan Options dialog. The Options dialog box can be reached from the EZ-Scan main menu Tools>Options. Fields will be added from the Add Field dialog box which is reached by clicking the 'Add Field' button on the Verify tab.
For example if you have the following coupon to scan.
You will need to save 5 fields
Balance
MinPayment
PastDue
DateDue
CustAcct (The Checks will save the bank account number in the already existing Account field so you should name the customer account differently)
Add these 5 fields to the EZ-Scan database from the Verify tab.
Using the Plug-In manager
Next, open the Plug-In Manager. On EZ-Scan's main menu go to Tools>Plug-Ins>Plug-In Mgr.
This will bring you to the following dialog box.

The left pane of this dialog contains a list of 'Insert Points' which are places within the EZ-Scan program that plug-ins can run. The names are pretty self descriptive. The PST OCR Mitek v1.0 plug-in should run in the 'Just after an item has been saved' insert point.
Adding a Plug-In to an insert point
To add the plug-in to the 'Just after an item has been saved' insert point highlight the insert point in the left pane. The right pane will switch to a list of plug-ins that will run in that insert point. It will be empty the first time that you do this. Click the 'Add' button and choose the PST OCR Mitek Plug-In from the list, to add it to the insert point. It will now appear in the list in the right pane.

Configure the plug-in options
Click on the PST OCR Mitek Plug-In v1.0 in the right pane to select it, and then click the configure button. This will open the editor to create and edit form layout files which the plug-in will use to read your documents.
Please see the Using the Form Editor for details on setting up and editing OCR forms.
The first time that you click the configure button it will take you directly to the Form Editor. Once you have created at least one form and click on the configure button you will be presented with a dialog box with a dropdown list of available forms. Just choose the form that you would like to use from the list before scanning, or if you need to change to a different document, and click the 'OK' button.
